Liquid Handling

Yes, the OPTIFIX® SOLVENT has been especially designed for the dosage of organic solvents and is used in medical and chemical laboratories. Without any problems it is possible to dispense ether, chloroform and all chlorinated organic solvents.
For the dosage of strong acids we recommend the use of the OPTIFIX® SAFETY and the new SAFETY S dispensers. The dosing liquid will only be in touch with high resistant materials such as glass, sapphire and PTFE. Especially when working with fuming and strongly smelling media, the technical requirements are high. The new OPTIFIX® SAFETY S dispenser with safety stopcock has been especially designed for that. An additional PTFE ball valve has been integrated in the ventilation tube of the valve block to prevent the unintentional escape of acid vapours and odours from the flask, and the fit between piston and cylinder has been made to even tighter tolerances. The OPTIFIX® dispenser has to be cleaned after use.

Before using the dispenser please read the operating manual carefully and follow the safety instructions. Observe general notes on hazards and safety regulations, e. g. wear protective clothing, gloves and glasses. Observe any hazard symbols on reagent bottles.

Each OPTIFIX® dispenser comes with 2 adapters GL 40 + 45, 1 PTFE intake tube
The OPTIFIX® Dispenser fits directly to bottles with a thread of GL 32.

What shall I do, if the dispenser does not fit on my bottle?

Adapters are available in various sizes referring to the outside diameter of your bottle. Please follow the link to our web shop. Special designs are possible. In this case we would need your bottle as sample.

• Prepare a standard cleaning solution and hot water.

• Remove the piston from the Cylinder via the volume setting knob. Remove discharge tube, intake tube and adapter.

• Put all parts into the cleaning solution for 2-4 hours or over night to allow a good soaking.

• After soaking, use a clean glassware brush to remove any further dirt if necessary.

• Rinse all dispenser parts with distilled water and air dry.

• Reassamble the unit and put the OPTIFIX dispenser back into service.

Referring to the operating manual the OPTIFIX® BASIC could be autoclaved (please take the piston out of the cylinder) and the OPTIFIX®SOLVENT could be autoclaved without dismantling.

 What to do when the piston of the BASIC dispenser is stuck after autoclaving?

Dry the dispenser after autoclaving and put it in the refrigerator overnight.

Syringes

For the FORTUNA OPTIMA® glass syringes there are no spare parts available.
Yes. The FORTUNA® glass syringes can be used with organic and inorganic solvents.
The FORTUNA OPTIMA® glass syringes withstand the following pressures:

  • 1ml – 10ml = 300 kPa (3 Bar)
  • 10 ml – 30ml = 200 kPa (2 Bar)
  • more than 30ml = 150 kPa (1,5 Bar)
The FORTUNA OPTIMA® glass syringes are made of Durobax® glass.
